Last August, VMware introduced vSphere 8, defined as the enterprise workload platform. It brings the benefits of the cloud to on-premises workloads.
A new era of heterogeneous computing introduced Data Processing Units to Enterprises through VMware vSphere Distributed Services Engine. vSphere Distributed Services Engine is the next step in the evolution of cloud infrastructure for modern applications.
This week, VMware announced vSphere 8 Update 1. Which include some great additions and enhancements.
vSphere 8 Update 1 is expected to reach initial availability later in this fiscal quarter ending in April, with general availability to follow, per VMware new release model.
One of the major updates -for me- is Okta Identity Federation for VCenter. Okta introduced a strategic partnership to deliver advanced identity capabilities for the Digital Workspace. By integrating VMware Workspace ONE and the Okta Identity Cloud, our customers can easily and securely move to the cloud, adopt best-of-breed technologies and simplify IT management.
This release includes Octa service in vCenter. vSphere administrators can leverage modern identity management features for enhanced security and streamlined operations.

ESXi Quick Boot Support on Servers with TPM 2.0 Chips
Quick Boot is mainly used in lifecycle management administration activities like patching or upgrades. In this update, TPM 2.0 does not need to be disabled for Quick Boot.

DevOps users now can easily access virtual machine remote consoles, for virtual machines they have deployed, using kubectl.

Integrated Skyline Health Diagnostics Plug-in
Skyline health is one of the great diagnostic tools. A guided workflow embedded in the vSphere Client can be used to easily deploy the Skyline Health Diagnostics appliance and register it with the vCenter.

Enhanced vSphere Green Metrics
In vSphere 8.0 Update 1, it is now able to attribute the individual power consumption of each VM, taking VM size into account, to provide customers with more and more data to aggregate the VM power consumption in a way to understand the energy efficiency of workloads.
