VeeamOn 2024 – What you’ve missed

VeeamOn 2024 – What you’ve missed
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Probably, this title is for me since I missed this year’s VeeamOn. Which was fascinating as usual with lots of big announcements.

The keynote was done by Veeam’s CEO, Anand Eswaran. He mentioned some statistics to explain Veeam’s market position. That was lots of 1s indeed 🙂

In fact, This is one big announcement itself. Over the past years, Veeam dominated the world of data protection.

Let’s talk technically

For me, one of the biggest announcements is that Veeam B&R will be installed on Linux (as an option) with the upcoming V13.

For those who are familiar with Linux, this is a life savior. The expectation from this movement is better performance and less resource overhead. And cost reduction of course.

Again, this is an option, and the Windows OS version is still applied.

Another big announcement is the support of Proxmox VE. You are already familiar with the market change regarding virtualization platforms. Veeam here stepped up to expand its support to different virtualization platforms.

This is along with support to Oracle Linux Virtualization Managers (oVirt) KVM-based virtualization.

Another announcement that Veeam/Microsoft Copilot integration. It is not new. On March 7th, Veeam announced a partnership with Microsoft, that includes:

Migration and protection of Azure Kubernetes Services facilitated through Kasten by Veeam.

Joint development to enhance Veeam backup and recovery solutions with AI capabilities, including integrating Microsoft Copilot for automated data analysis, cost-effective AI-powered insights, and simplified data visualization.

Integration with the latest application programming interfaces for Microsoft 365 Backup Storage to facilitate faster backup and restore operations within Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.

Collaborative marketing activities to promote Veeam’s protection and recovery offerings to customers of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure.

Introduction of Veeam backup and recovery features tailored for Microsoft Azure.

Simplification of on-premises customer migration to the Veeam Data Cloud hosted on Azure.

You can read more about the partnership from here.

EntraID (formerly Azure AD) support is also not new. You can see full details about the integration from here.

Veeam also announced some updates as below:

  • MongoDB Support
  • Proxy Pools
  • Veeam Backup for Kubernetes v7
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v8
  • Veeam Backup for AWS v8
  • Veeam Backup for Azure v7
  • Veeam Backup for Salesforce v3

Probably, each announcement needs a separate article of its own.

You can follow up through the official VeeamOn webpage, also, you can watch the recorded sessions from here.
