Veeam 100 Summit – Day 3

Veeam 100 Summit – Day 3

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This one is going to be huge. I initially thought of making this day on multiple blogs. So please forgive me for this long one.

The day started with Veeam One 12.1. Actually Veeam one is my favorite product for many reasons I will talk about separately.

One of the major announcements is a new tab called “Threat Center”

This tab shows number of scorecards, like:

  • Platform Security Compliance
  • Data Recovery Health
  • Data Protection Status
  • Backup immutability Status

It shows also RPO status for replication and SLA compliance overview.

Another announcement is “Enhanced Alarm Lifecycle”

This proves my vision for Veeam One, to be a comprehensive solution. As we can see, Veeam One enables seamless integration into existing toolboxes, capitalizing on Data Protection visibility.

With interoperability with ServiceNow, and Syslog standards to enhance incident response and ensuring an effective monitoring for data protection.

VB365 V8, what’s new?

Let’s recap for the architecture of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 V7 (formerly: Office365).

V8 comes with a new architecture, includes:

NATS Server (with JetStream)

  • Builds processing queues
  • Maintains a variety of operational streams

Centralized PostgreSQL database

  • Replaces SQLite databases from controller, proxies and repositories
  • Replaces local cache for object storage repositories

Ready-to-use object storage repository (Wizard)

Restore operations executed on a proxy(REST only)

Under the hood: All services migrated to .NET6

For backup proxies:

Proxy Pools

  • For object storage only
  • Better scalability
  • Load balancing by CPU/RAM consumption
  • Throttling-based balancing
  • Maintenance mode for individual proxies

Proxy on Linux:

  • For object storage only
  • RHEL / Ubuntu

So, here is the new architecture for V8:

But is it not only the architecture, there are some enhancement in data migration using PowerShell cmdlets VBODataMigration

  • Backups running in parallel
  • Migrate a backup job or organization
  • Switch jobs after migration
  • DOES NOT delete any data from source repository

There are more 🙂

  • M365: Basic auth is deprecated
  • Microsoft Teams
    • – Private and Shared channels
    • – Paid APIs –a default for posts backup
  • Get M365 user SKUs, including Education plans
  • Amazon S3 One Zone-IA support

Of course, there are a lot more information and announcements. To not make it that long, I will share each topic in a separate blog.
