On Januray 26th, 2024. Microsoft announced the official name for the upcoming Windows server: Windows Server 2025

This new version is driven by user feedback and the desire to embrace a hybrid, adaptive cloud. Here are some of the key areas Microsoft is investing in for Windows Server 2025:

Windows Server Hotpatching for Everyone

Hotpatching is a feature that allows patches to be applied to a system without requiring a reboot. This can significantly reduce downtime and improve system availability.

Next Generation Active Directory and SMB

Active Directory (AD) is a directory service developed by Microsoft for Windows domain networks. Server Message Block (SMB) is a network file-sharing protocol. The next generation of these services promises to bring enhanced capabilities and performance.

Mission Critical Data & Storage

Data is the lifeblood of any organization, and its storage and management are paramount. Windows Server 2025 will introduce new features and improvements in this area.

Hyper-V & AI

Hyper-V is Microsoft’s hardware virtualization product. It lets you create and run a software version of a computer, called a virtual machine. AI refers to Artificial Intelligence, which is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines. Enhancements in these areas can lead to more efficient computing and data processing.

Other Features

Microsoft has also hinted at other features and improvements, including easier upgrades, a pay-as-you-go subscription option, and more.
